
Use this handy checklist to help you construct well-written collection letters!

| Make it clear to your customer what you want or need them to do when they have finished reading the correspondence. | ||
| Include all the relevant facts and any supporting documentation. | ||
| Avoid flowery words. Be as direct and specific as possible. | ||
| Keep sentences and paragraphs short. | ||
| Limit letters to one page. Try to limit e-mail messages to 100 words or less. | ||
| Avoid jargon Keep your message simple. | ||
| Keep your letter positive. Assume that the customer can and will pay the past due balance. | ||
| Consider adding a postscript to reinforce your message | ||
