Use this handy checklist to help you construct well-written collection letters!

Collection Letter Writing Tips
 
Pass Fail Item Being Checked
Make it clear to your customer what you want or need them to do when they have finished reading the correspondence.
Include all the relevant facts and any supporting documentation.
Avoid flowery words. Be as direct and specific as possible.
Keep sentences and paragraphs short.
Limit letters to one page. Try to limit e-mail messages to 100 words or less.
Avoid jargon Keep your message simple.
Keep your letter positive. Assume that the customer can and will pay the past due balance.
Consider adding a postscript to reinforce your message
