Assessing a company’s creditworthiness is much more than simple math. It requires an assessment of both internal and external considerations. Every financial statement tells a story. The challenge is to understand what the story is and how future performance will be impacted by factors both within and beyond a company’s control.
Bob. Shultz will take participants through a review of key aspects of a financial statement. This will cover important ratios, and how to weave past trends into projecting future results. He will then discuss how assessing creditworthiness requires a broader view of a company’s business environment, competitive position, and sustainability.
In lesson 2 Participants will break into small virtual groups to exercise their analytical skills with a case study assignment. The results will be discussed among all attendees.
Lesson 1
The discussion will focus on analyzing a financial statement to understand the story being told. This will first cover what to look for from the numbers reported. Even more important, what are the questions needing answers to understand what is behind the numbers and their true meaning.
Participants will then learn of a variety of factors to help assess internal and external forces impacting a company’s competitive landscape, future results, and the level of credit risk.
Lesson 2
The participants will break into small groups to review a case study. They will evaluate the case study using SWOT analysis, considering what was covered in the lesson 1 and their own professional experience.
Each group will report their analysis for discussion among the group as a whole. Proof of completion certificate will be given to each participant who completes this two-day workshop.
